Dudes drop a close one 4-5 to Everett Cup champion Merchants

Redmond came into Funko field Friday night with a 3-2 record after three wins against the Honkers, Wallbangers and Studs and losses against the Honkers and Merchants.

The Everett Merchants were on a nice winning streak coming off a victory against the Mariners single-A affiliate Everett Aqua Sox capturing the Everett cup championship. Cody Culp made his second consecutive start against Redmond on Friday night. Culp went 1,2,3, in the first a rolled until the 3rd inning when the Dudes managed to score a run from an RBI from AJ Morioka.

Rhyse Frey started on the mound for Redmond and it was immediately a rocky start walking 3, striking out two, allowing 2 earned over 2 IP. Brian Pino came on strong out of the pen for Redmond throwing four scoreless innings allowing only one hit.

Clayton Truex led the offense for the Dudes sending his third homerun of the season off the left field foul pole to put Redmond ahead 4-3 in the top of the 8th.

Jake Levin entered on the mound for Redmond after Brian Pino and walked one then allowing a hit to put runners on first and second. A passed ball allowed the runners to advance to second and third, then a ground ball misplayed by Redmond’s SS AJ Morioka allowed two runs to score sealing Redmond’s fate eventually falling by a score of 4-5.
